Pitty Pat

An ace of spades next to a pile of cards with the ace of hearts showing.Pitty Pat is a simple card game for two to five players. Setup

Pitty Pat is played with one standard 52-card deck of playing cards. If you want to give your players the best possible gaming experience, and avoid sticky, bent, or torn cards, you’re going to want to use a deck of Denexa 100% Plastic Playing Cards.

Shuffle and deal five cards to each player. Place the deck stub in the center of the table, forming the stock. Then, turn the top card of the stock face up; this card, the upcard, is the first card of the discard pile.

Game play

The player to the dealer’s left goes first. They compare the upcard with the cards in their hand. If they hold any card of the same rank as the upcard, they discard that card. They may then discard any other card they wish (which becomes the new upcard), and the turn passes to the player to their left.

If the player doesn’t have any cards that match the rank of the upcard, they turn over a new card from the stock. If they can match this new upcard, they discard the matching card and any other card from their hand, as before. Regardless of whether they can play or not, the turn then passes to the left. The next player then tries to match against the new upcard, and so on.

Game play continues until one player runs out of cards. That player is the winner.

If you pick a card from the deck which is not a match, can you switch out that card for one that is in your hand?

These rules are close but not quite right. Dealer is selected randomly. Every player get 5 cards.

RULE: pairs are ALWAYS held to the end and then acts as a single card.
RULE: 3 of a kind is always treated as one card.
    These rules are paramount.

After deal deck is set w/ dealer and a card is turned up. Going left, the first player that can match the up card, lays it down with any single card OR any 3 of a kind. Continuing left, if any player can match the initial up card it becomes a DEAD card and is placed face up in front of the player.

RULE: players with dead cards must play them.
RULE: Playing out of turn call for serious but humorous reprimand, and must be backed out of the renege and replayed.

Play continues until no one can match the last card played. Then another card is turned over, and the cycle repeats until someone can discard all their cards.

    Example 1: a player dealt Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5 could in theory play as follows: Ace with a 2, 3 with a 4, 5 and I’m out.

    Example 2: a player dealt Ace, 2, 3, 4, 4 could in theory play Ace with a 2, 3 with a pair of 4’s and I’m out.

Example 3: a player dealt Ace, 2, 2, 2, 3 could in theory play Ace with three 2’s and 3 and I’m out.

    THOSE ARE THE RULES
